Leigh Park Initiative holds a number of events throughout the year. In the week before Christmas we sing open-air Carols at the Jubilee Herb Garden (just outside the front of Dickens House, 34-50 Hardy Crescent), where we serve hot drinks and mince pies.
On Good Friday, the Churches Together in Wimborne procession comes to the same location, the Jubilee Herb Garden, where we remember the death of Christ on the cross 2000 years ago. All are welcome, and after the ceremony is over, we serve hot cross buns and hot drinks.
Every couple of years we have a grand marquee event in the centre of the rugby pitches (hence the marquee illustration on our literature and web site!), with a variety of events aimed at serving the needs of the local community. The event has been held in the middle of August, over a weekend, in 2002, 2004 & 2006, and culminates with all-age informal worship led by local Christians – all are welcome. You can see photos of this event from 2002 here. Our Health and Safety document is also available for inspection. The next Alive in the Park is happening on 10th-12th July 2009.
On 19th May 2007 Christians living in Leigh Park gathered at Wimborne Baptist Church for a bring and share tea to talk about their life and witness on the estate. The younger ones then shook up their tea on a bouncy castle
