Community Centre Campaign

Image of community centre? For some years now, there has been a campaign for better community facilities on Leigh Park. A number of organisations have funding for offering services on Leigh Park, but are unable to actually operate on the estate itself because of the lack of facilities. Here is a link to a story in the Bournemouth Daily Echo from 2002, just to show how long local residents have been active - scroll to just over half way down and you will see the story.

A few years ago local councillors, the Leigh Park Residents' Association, and LPI investigated a variety of sites with a view to obtaining temporary facilities in Portakabins. This option is once more under  investigation.

Plans for redevelopment of the club-house of Wimborne Rugby Club have been on the cards for a long time, and have suffered a number of setbacks. Unfortunately these plans have run into funding difficulties.

The LP Residents' Association has formed a sub group the Leigh Park Community Centre Action Group dedicated to campaigning for a new Community Centre on Leigh Park. Leigh Park Initiative is fully supportive of such a move and is involved in the campaign. The East Dorset Community Partnership has an article on the News page about the issue.
